The E3 Displays Difference
Background
Three major issues that the customer was having with a current supplier:
1. De-lamination of the optical bond due to the super narrow bezel flexibility
2. Optical effects, primarily background non-uniformity after optical bonding side reflections and optical transmission on all four sides of the optical bond
3. Timing, since it was the first week in December and the customer needed display assemblies for an upcoming major public event.
The Challenge
This project presented multiple custom display challenges with a very time sensitive deadline that we were able to overcome.
1. Selecting the proper E3 Materials formulation of adhesive for this specific LCD optical bond system design, to ensure no de-lamination
2. Develop a material and process for eliminating the side reflections and transmission of light through the sides of the optical bond adhesive.
3. Be able to overcome technical challenges above, complete full optically bonded systems with 100% yield, develop customer packaging that would ensure safe arrival of the final product, while meeting a very tight delivery window.
The Result
After reviewing the various formulations in the suite of E3 Materials Liquid Optical Clear Adhesives (LOCA), the E3 technical team chose a formulation designed with high adhesion required to eliminate delamination, and special formulation properties that eliminate background uniformity issues that can occur on large format LCDs. This formulation was developed for large format optical bonding.
The E3 technical team selected a unique material that adhered to the exposed LOCA, and was black in color, eliminating the side reflections and transmission of light through the sides of the optical bond adhesive.
The units were fabricated during a holiday break utilizing the solutions identified above and with 100% yield. Our solutions achieved the customer’s objectives and were packaged and delivered on schedule via a rented cargo van by E3 to ensure that the display systems arrived on time without damage. The customer’s event was a success.
Through the process our E3 team was able to provide a complete custom solution and deliver the product on time and within the project budget. Furthermore, our client success means our success and that’s why we have been able to establish and maintain multiple long-lasting relationships within the digital signage industry.
