Job Description
The Production Manager oversees all functions within the manufacturing department. This role manages production supervisors in a manufacturing environment to ensure that production lines are running smoothly and efficiently. Works with various cross functional team members to plan, organize and ensure that product is produced efficiently, safely, on time, within budget, and to standards. Direct manufacturing personnel and work closely with staff to plan work, set targets, and make sure finished products meet schedule, customer requirements, and quality standards while complying with safety requirements.
Primary / Routine Responsibilities
- Manage and lead; sets goals, prioritizes work, coaches and supports employees, and standardizes operations across all shifts.
- Train supervisors on work functions and ensures that training cascades into every level of the organization.Â
- Establish training processes and conducts training sessions of hourly and salary production employees. Reinforces appropriate procedures, policies, and work rules.
- Hire capable hourly and salary employees to meet production demands.Â
- Create a positive environment for change.Â
- Represent manufacturing department on various teams and projects.
- Schedule coverage for absences due to vacation, sick time, overtime, leave of absence, etc.
- Provide timely feedback to employees in the form of periodic performance reviews.
- Meet production goals and eliminate waste.
- Schedule production line and personnel staffing in cooperation with the master scheduler.
- Monitor production processes with respect to housekeeping, safety, and environmental needs.

- Act as the primary stakeholder in the ECR and corrective action processes for changes affecting the manufacturing environment. Responsible for effective & timely completion of corrective actions.
- Create and maintains a safe work environment through accident investigation and safety teams. Drives safety improvement throughout the manufacturing department.
- Manage manufacturing department inventory with respect to MRP (Epicor) transactions, inventory adjustments, cycle counts, and physical inventory control to ensure inventory accuracy.
- Establishes formal and informal communications for staff and employees.
- Reports daily production data from the manufacturing dashboard related to department KPI goals in weekly management meetings.
- Schedule production personnel to optimize production output and able to monitor labor used on work orders.
- Work with supply chain and quality personnel to solve material issues in order to complete production demands.
- Plan the flow of work or materials to maximize efficiency.
- Work with engineering on NPI builds and prepare factory personnel and process flows for new customer builds.
- Create and revise departmental documents and provide input to the improvement of other company documents.
- Interpret engineering drawings, sketches, or diagrams.
- Develop and/or implement programs to address problems related to production, materials, safety, or quality KPI’s.
- Champion lean manufacturing Kaizen events and implementations of process improvements.
- Maintain an organized work environment by using visual tools on the production floor.
- Coordinate with staff to plan work, set targets, and ensure finished products meet quality standards.
- Continually assess project build times and update labor standards as necessary.
- Work closely with the master scheduler to review and maintains build schedule and monitor production progress; coordinates activities; resolves problems.
- Reinforce and updates company safety procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Maintain product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations as well as internal product quality requirements.
- Participate in and support ISO audit requirements by training production personnel and continually improving production processes and documentation.
Preferred Skills
- Possess knowledge of electronics processes and assembly techniques in low volume high mix manufacturing environment.
- Prior training or experience in Lean Manufacturing.
- Responsible to actively seek out, find, and implement continuous process improvements.
- Knowledge of ISO quality control systems.
- Possess knowledge of cleanroom environment and protocols.
- Experience working with a comprehensive ERP system (Epicor) to manage and analyze operational and production activities and performance.
- Familiarity with concepts of problem-solving tools such as Six Sigma.
- Ability to provide effective leadership to direct reports utilizing performance coaching techniques.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated with ability to multi-task, and perform duties in a dynamic and collaborative working environment.
- Hands-on approach, willing to insert themselves into the development of process improvements with active participation across various departments.

Additional Qualifications/Skills
Education and/or Experience         Â
Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, industrial engineering or related discipline.Â
5+ years’ experience in supervision and/or managing production environments.
Requirements Analysis, Planning and Project Management, Lean Six Sigma Manufacturing Methods and Procedures, Process Improvement, Documentation & Communication Skills, Safety, ERP for small to medium sized businesses.
Travel
Ability and willingness to travel to supplier sites and/or participate in best practice facility tours (typically <10%) and, when necessary, to work outside of standard office hours on short notice.
Language Skills         Â
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos in English. Must be able to construct sentences using proper spelling and grammar in order to update QMS documents and reports, create procedures and correspondence with customers verbally and with use of email, text and written documents.
Reasoning Ability         Â
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills         Â
To perform this job successfully, an individual will need to understand and use Epicor effectively and correctly. This ERP can be taught at the time of hire. Prior experience with ERP based systems is preferred.
Ability to operate and used Windows-based tools such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to effectively capture critical information and communicate effectively.
