Job Description

Responsibility and accountability for the purchase of goods, materials, and services to ensure that the company’s operational needs are met, considering price, quality, and delivery and to ensure continuity of supply.  In this position, you will manage the company’s supply of products, materials and/or services internationally and domestically, using analytics and negotiations. Key activities include interaction with cross-functional stakeholders to manage spend and review market analytics, manage buys to orders and forecast, conduct supplier negotiations, support project execution and supplier relationship management, and document best practices for the procurement team. Work closely with manufacturing operations to provide material procurement support on production and engineering builds.

 

Primary / Routine Responsibilities

As Buyer

  • Perform procurement lifecycle management including MRP analysis, PO placement (in Epicor) and supply reporting for assigned commodities or programs. 
  • Work with internal departments, such as Sales, Quality, Engineering, Logistics, Finance, and suppliers on new and existing product developments to collaborate in the selection process.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and concise reports, specifications, correspondence, and other written materials.
  • Create and implement cost reduction initiatives while maintaining high levels of service and quality.
  • Analyze, identify, recommend, and implement procurement process improvements to support evolving needs of supplier business relationships.
  • Communicate and assess daily issues, including engineering changes, to ensure no shortages to production needs.
  • Provide frequent status updates on material procurement positions to key stakeholders.
  • Accountable for RFI’s, RFP’s and RFQ’s for assigned commodities or programs. 
  • Negotiate and administer optimal terms with suppliers that consider, among other things, cost, quality, schedule and supply continuity in support of unique program requirements.
  • Establish and foster effective strategic supplier relationships, to ensure delivery performance and timely resolution of quality issues.
  • Consolidate spend across the supply base to create leverage and work with strategic sourcing to develop supply alternatives where needed. 
  • Provide input to procurement process improvements related to ERP/MRP automations.
  • Support the continuous improvement and standardization of the strategic sourcing processes.
  • Create, update, monitor and report KPI’s for assigned commodities or programs.
  • Communicates, reports, and applies closure to supplier defective materials.
  • Drives supplier performance by hosting frequent KPI reviews and enforcing MSA terms.
  • Provide Productivity and Payment Terms recording and tracking.
  • Establish and update part master supplier information such as lead times, costing, MOQ’s, etc.
  • Act as point of contact for suppliers and address any issues or problems as they arise.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with contract management, project management, and supplier relationship management within a low volume high mix environment.
  • Working knowledge of Federal and Defense contracting requirements (FAR/DFARS/ITAR)
  • Interpret engineering drawings, sketches, or diagrams.
  • Experience working with a comprehensive ERP/MRP system to manage procurement activities (Epicor preferred). 
  • Functional knowledge of working in CRM and PLM systems.
  • International supplier management experience within electronics industries.
  • Understanding of supply chain planning and procurement of electronic assemblies.
  • Analytical skills specific to Procurement (Supplier Performance, Cost BOMs, etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation skills including the ability to present to senior managers.
  • Knowledge of FAR, MCO and ECO processes.
  • Skilled user of Microsoft Office suite of business software.
  • Applicable knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts related to supply chain (FIFO, Kanban, JIT).
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated with ability to multi-task, and perform duties in a dynamic and collaborative working environment.
  • Hands-on approach, willing to insert themselves into the development of process improvements with active participation across various departments.

Additional Qualifications/Skills

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor Degree in Business, Finance or related discipline. 

3+ years’ experience in Purchasing or Supply Chain.

Requirements Analysis, Planning and Project Management, Lean Manufacturing environment and related procedures, Process Improvement, Documentation & Communication Skills, ERP for small to medium sized businesses.

Travel

Ability and willingness to travel to supplier sites (typically <10%) and, when necessary, to work outside of standard office hours on short notice.

Language Skills  

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos in English.  Must be able to construct sentences using proper spelling and grammar in order to update QMS documents and reports, create procedures and correspondence with customers verbally and with use of email, text and written documents.

Reasoning Ability    

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual will need to understand and use Epicor effectively and correctly.  This ERP can be taught at the time of hire. Prior experience with ERP based systems is preferred.

Ability to operate and used Windows based tools such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to effectively capture critical information and communicate effectively.
